UCDC Latest News
Latest News | Urea Cycle Disorders Consortium
This page is a view. Items listed here are either a feed from the RDCRN news section or added directly into Drupal. They will show as a “card” on the latest-news page which is part of the main menu drop-down list. There is also a separate hidden page for each news story. As an example, “Rare Research Report: June 2024” is the current latest news for UCDC. Because it is the most current, it is the item that shows at the top of the page. When a new news story is published, this article will move from the top spot and will move down to the next row of articles showing on the left side. Stories (cards) will continue to shift left to right and down the page as new stories are added. Here is the URL for the same news article as a hidden URL: Rare Research Report: June 2024
Example of the most current news story:
Example of “cards”:
By adding a new “News” content in Drupal, you automatically add both the hidden URL for the article and a “Card” to the “Latest News” page.
To add a new news article, log into Drupal. In the top right click on “Content”, “Add content”, “News”.
Add information in the following fields:
Title – this will display on “Latest News” as the card title and will display as the header on the hidden URL.
Summary – this is right under the title – look for (Edit summary) and click to edit.
If left blank, the card created by the news article will automatically populate a summary based on the copy found at the top of the news article. The card displays on both the “Latest News” page and the home page. It’s important to review the card after you save (publish) a new article to make sure that what is displayed is what you wished to display. You have the option to force what is added to the card by clicking on “Edit summary” button that is right next to “Body”.
Example – no summary added.
News card on home page displays as this (summary is the copy found in “body”).
Here is an example where there is copy added to the “Summary” that then overheads the copy in the “Body” for the new card.
How the news card looks on the home page:
Body – enter information here. Follow instructions on adding/updating copy above paying attention to making sure your html code in “source” is clean when you are finished.
Date – fill in either today’s date or you can back date if you wish.
Time – fill this in with current time.
Image - you can add an image here. Image size is important here to show correctly on the card - 1200 x 628 pixels (if unsure on how to add an image, see instructions earlier in this guide) OR
Image URL – add an image URL – if the article originates on the RDCRN site, you will see an image URL added here with no image added to the article
Image Alt text- please add something in this field to describe your image.
Categories – this is a carry over from the RDCRN page. You do not need to select something here.
10. Campaign – this field is not used
11. Move to completing information on the right side.
12. Metatags – are not set. You can add them if you’d like – page title is auto generated.
13. Main Menu – this isn’t in the main menu. The individual articles found on the “Latest News” page are hidden URLs.
14. URL alias – this is automatically generated, but if you uncheck the box you can input a custom URL if needed.
Once you are finished adding to or updating a news story, scroll to the bottom and click “Save” on the left side. This will show on the live site immediately.
